Article Summary: After a brief look at theological responses to biological evolution, some fundamental themes of Christian theology are reviewed. On this basis it is argued that evolution is to be preferred to creationism from the theological standpoint. Furthermore, it is argued that a Darwinian understanding of evolution is in better accord with the Biblical mew of God’s creative activity than is the Lamarckian one. A preliminary look is also taken at the related problems of evil, sin and death in the evolutionary context.
