Creation Science Rebuttals -

Pre-Flood Conditions and Giantism

In an article on the Creation, Dinosaurs and the Flood website, young earth creation science advocate Charlie Liebert claims the pre-flood world was vastly different.1

I'm not sure where to start on this one...there is that much wrong with it!  He starts by claiming the entire world, pole to pole, was a lush garden of tropical temperature!  NO OCEANS!  However, we know that God separated the waters into oceans during the creation event.  He then refers to the Canopy Theory, which when scientifically examined, it is discovered that the canopy would have killed most life on earth!  Surface temperature in a vapor canopy world would be unbearable (for a complete history of this theory, see The Demise and Fall of the Water Vapor Canopy: A Fallen Creationist Idea.

Liebert claims that "This water above would have compressed the atmosphere and created both much larger creatures and greatly increased longevity."  He uses the example of a bacteria, which under increased pressure, the life span is increased 10 times, and then correlates this to man.  However, man is not a bacteria...the comparison is not valid.  Neither is the canopy theory, which blows this increased longevity in the first place.

He claims that after the flood, the earth was no longer lush, and animals became more predatory, which led to the dinosaur extinction.  I have a hard time thinking of today's largest predators, the great cats, attacking a 100 foot long dinosaur and killing it.

He is right about the conditions after the flood...the lush forests would be gone.  In fact, it would be a wasteland, with no plants growing anywhere.  Predator dinosaurs, and other large predators, would prey on the cattle when they were released from the ark.  Eventually, most life forms would be extinct.  The dinosaurs, when they had eaten everything else, would eventually die of starvation.  Such is the reality of a global flood scenario.

Liebert proceeds into a discussion of giant insects in the fossil record.  While interesting, this has nothing to do with the Flood, or the pre-flood conditions, since his vapor canopy model is false.  The standard interpretation, that these are extinct insects, from millions of years ago, works just fine (much better than Liebert's explanations).

Finally, he refers to the young earth theory that the Flood caused an ice age.  For more on this faulty claim, check out the review of the young earth ice age book Frozen In Time.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
