Is the Big Bang Biblical?

Question #61.  Did African Eve leave footprints?

Morris begins by talking about the "out of Africa" theory, and the fact that mitochondrial DNA shows that we are all descended from a common ancestor (Eve), dating to about 100,000 to 300,000 years ago.  Morris says that creationists agree that all humans go back to one woman, the Biblical Eve.  I agree with this, however, there is no problems with this mitochondrial Eve being the Biblical Eve, although I dispute the out of Africa part.  Also, the dates of the mitochondrial DNA data vary, with some suggesting that it could have been much less than 100,000 years ago.

The reason for Morris asking this question is the set of three footprints discovered in 1997, which date to about 117,000 years.  Even if the dates are accurate, there is no way of knowing if these belonged to the African Eve.  Of course, I understand the willingness of the evolutionary scientists in making this comparison.  I too, like Morris, would urge caution in this matter, as there is really nothing that we can prove from it.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
