Is the Big Bang Biblical?

Question #51. Is the earth's present condition the way that God created it?

Morris resorts to a God of the Gaps type discussion about the earth's present condition, which he explains is a result of the Flood of Noah.  His answer to this question is no, as the Flood destroyed everything that God first created.

The geologic evidence does not support this assumption.  There is no evidence of a global flood, just thousands of years ago.  The only way to get this interpretation is to pull a very small amount of geologic data out of context with the rest of the data, and ignore 99.9 percent of the data, which clearly indicates an old earth.

By the old earth creationists' understanding, God stopped the creative process, anywhere from 6,000 to 60,000 years ago.  However, these natural processes that He put in place are still in effect, changing the landscape.  However, the earth is pretty much as it appeared at the end of creation.

People have a problem with this because they think of the creation as "perfect."  However, the creation was not "perfect"...only the Garden of Eden, our vision of paradise that God gave to Adam, was perfect.  The rest of the world, outside the Garden, was "perfect," in that it had a perfectly functioning ecosystem, self-renewing, just as God designed it.  The Flood (local) destroyed the known world of Noah's time, which probably included the Garden of Eden, thus this is the only major change to the world since the time of the creation.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
