Creation Science Rebuttals -

Natural Selection and Bears

Addition of Genetic Information

Review by Greg Neyman

In an article on the Creation, Dinosaurs and the Flood website, young earth creation science advocate Charlie Liebert discusses process of natural selection.1
Liebert claims that the process of natural selection is not the same as evolution. He uses the example of the polar bear to prove his point. In the strictest sense of the words, he is right. Natural selection does not add information. However, it is still an integral part of evolution.
The thing that adds (or subtracts) genetic information is mutations. Liebert claims that "Evolution MUST demonstrate an increase in genetic information and that NEVER happens in nature!!" Well, evolutionists say that it does happen in nature. What is important is that young earth creationists don't recognize this. Documented examples include 1)showing increased genetic variety within a population; 2)increased genetic material; 3)novel genetic material; and 4)novel genetically-regulated abilities.

Evolutionists have answered this claim and shown that genetic material can and has been added. However, creationists will not recognize it. In presenting this information, I am not saying that evolution, as a whole, is true. However, if one wants to believe in evolution, they can do so, and still believe in an inerrant Word of God, and a literal translation of Genesis. You can "have your cake and eat it too!"

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
