On 20 April 2006 Answers in Genesis reported a story about their partners in the young earth business, the Institute for Creation Research.1   This report told about a unique online master's degree in science education.

This degree, with an emphasis on creationism (young earth version) is supposed to give science teachers the opportunity to learn how to teach creationist ideas.  The author proclaims "ICR’s online “Master’s Degree Program in Science Education” is unique because it supports the biblical creation model."  However, old earth creationists also supports a biblical creation model, just as ICR does.  Of course, ICR is of the opinion that theirs is the correct model.  However, they should not be proclaiming that they are the only ones who believe in a biblical creation model.

How useful is this new degree program?  Most people in America know that you cannot teach creationism in public schools, therefore for most teachers, this program would be a waste.  Some private, Christian school teachers may benefit from this degree program, even though it is not teaching the truth.

The author goes on to say that ICR is the only graduate school that proclaims the inerrancy of God's Word.  It should be pointed out that old earth creationists, especially progressive creationists like Hugh Ross and myself, also believe in inerrancy.

The author goes on to explain the details of the degree program.  Towards the end, she says that many Christian teachers, and Christian colleges, marginalize creation issues.  This is correct, for they rightly recognize that while it is of utmost importance that you believe in Jesus, your beliefs in creation do not matter, for God does not care what you believe about creation.

When it comes to creation, the words of the famous evangelist Billy Graham say it best.

"I don't think that there's any conflict at all between science today and the Scriptures. I think that we have misinterpreted the Scriptures many times and we've tried to make the Scriptures say things they weren't meant to say, I think that we have made a mistake by thinking the Bible is a scientific book. The Bible is not a book of science. The Bible is a book of Redemption, and of course I accept the Creation story. I believe that God did create the universe. I believe that God created man, and whether it came by an evolutionary process and at a certain point He took this person or being and made him a living soul or not, does not change the fact that God did create man. ... whichever way God did it makes no difference as to what man is and man's relationship to God."2

He had it right...the focus should be on Jesus, and the salvation message, not on creation science.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
