D122:  Australian Aboriginal art proves that dinosaurs existed with man

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:  Numerous young earth creationists claim that artwork of Australian aboriginees portrays dinosaurs, thus this proves that man and dinosaurs lived together (the painting in question shows an apparent plesiosaur)

Response:

  1. Rock art painted by primitive peoples cannot be taken seriously for scientific proof.  The drawings are probably nothing more than an fictional beast imagined by the artist

  2. Another possibility is that the artist was drawing a creature which he found as a fossil.  Thus, if he found a fossil plesiosaur, he added flesh to it to portray what it might have looked like

  3. Even if the artist painted a picture of a plesiosaur that he witnessed, it does not prove that dinosaurs and man lived together, because plesiosaurs are not dinosaurs (see D32)
