This article discusses a discovery by anthropologist Peter Schmidt, reported in Time magazine in 1978. The report indicated that the Haya people of Tanzania were producing steel in furnaces, which have been dated to about 2,000 years ago. Modern steelworking only began in the 1800's, thus this revelation is interesting.
This article has no impact, however, upon evolutionary thinking. For some reason, the author thinks it requires some modifications to fit it into evolutionary thought. The article gives the impression that he is referring to people who have claimed the Africans are not as evolved as the rest of humanity...in other words, he is trying to rebut the claims made by racist people back in the 1970's. It has no bearing on evolution.
