This article discusses the Piltdown Hoax.  The author is correct in labeling it a hoax.  The only thing interesting here is how scientists could be duped into believing the hoax.  The last paragraph says...

The question which all should ask is this: how could such a schoolboy forgery have fooled the world's top experts for 40 years? The answer is, of course, that they had found what they were looking for. The force of preconceived ideas is so strong that ‘scientific objectivity’ is usually the victim.

He is absolutely right, through their preconceived ideas, the scientists found what they were looking for.  This is EXACTLY what happens with young earth creation scientists as well.  They have the preconceived idea that the earth is young, and that is what they find, and their "scientific objectivity" is compromised.  Although the Piltdown man was a hoax, the greatest hoax of all time is that of young earth creationism.
