This article is an account of a visit to Australia by Professor Harold Slusher, of the Institute for Creation Research.1

Not much can be said about this article...he came, he spoke, he left.  One thing does stand out, and that is the young earth twist that the author of the article puts on each of Slusher's speaking engagements.  For instance, Slusher spoke at a lunchtime meeting on the campus of Flinders University.  He says Slusher spoke of the earth being young, and gave great arguments for his case.  In the end, the author claims

"His presentation was brilliant and effective.  The audience seemed rather stunned at the finish, and only three questions were asked, almost meekly.

The audience may have been stunned, but not from the evidence.  They were probably stunned that someone could still believe the earth was young.  The meekness of the questions was probably due to the fact the questioners did not want to be associated with this speaker.

The next meeting was with 1,500 people.  Naturally, the audience would have mostly been Christian, young earth believers, so there is no doubt that their feedback was positive.

He mentions a "Christian geologist" who took exception to Slusher's claims.  Naturally, the geologist is painted in a bad light.  All the geologist was trying to do was correct the bad science that Slusher was teaching.  He rightfully stood up for the truth.

Several other meetings were mentioned, but nothing of importance.  They go to show that back then, as today, young earth creation science advocates are convincing when they speak, and know how to handle an audience (and manipulate the data to support their cause!).  They would make excellent "snake-oil salesmen."

Don't get me wrong...I'm happy when someone becomes a Christian through a young earth presentation, but in the long run, they would be better off to base their faith in the truth, and not upon young earth falsehoods.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
