Dr. John's Q&A #125, May 1999

What can be done to help endangered species?

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in May 1999.  In addressing this question, Morris discusses how many millions of dollars are spent in order to save individual species from extinction.  Instead of this outlay of money, Morris suggests that due to crossing of species, that the many species are merely part of a larger grouping, called the "kind."  This harkens back to the "kind" argument that young earth creationists must use in order to fit all the animals on the ark...without it, the ark is too small.

Morris criticizes the efforts to save 19 species of monkeys (divided into four genera), when these monkeys naturally cross-breed.  In trying to keep these species separate, he claims the evolutionist environmentalists are actually limiting the gene pool.  He claims some species are so inbred that they are in danger of extinction.  Without access to the research he quotes, it is not possible to provide a rebuttal, however, he may be right.  Small control groups which are inbred should not be allowed, for the same reason that you cannot marry anyone who is your 1st cousin.  It is a bad idea from a genetic standpoint.  Of course, zoo's know this, and borrow breeding animals from each other.

Overall, the response to this question did not bring up any age of the earth issues to rebut.
