G361:  Juvenile Water

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:

Henry Morris in his book Scientific Creationism, claimed that juvenile water (water added to the oceans through volcanoes, hot springs, and other vents), is added at such a rate that the oceans could not be more than 320 million years old

Response:

  1. Yes, water is added through these processes, but water also leaves the ocean via subduction zones.  The water that is subducted lowers the melting point of rock, which causes the very volcanoes which contribute water back to the oceans.  In essence, the water is not new, but recycled
