G141:  KBS Tuff shows the flaws of radiometric dating

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:

In northern Kenya, the KBS Tuff is a layer of ash.  It is significant because hominid fossils and artifacts are found above and below it, thus date the tuff and you have a minimum age for the artifacts under it.  However, dates for the tuff rance from half a million years to 220 million years.  Researchers pick the dates they want, ignoring the so-called "bad dates"

Response:

  1. The tuff is a rediposited layer of volcanic ash.  Care must be taken to not date the material that it is mixed with.  This led to the older dates (for a much fuller explanation, open the Talk Origins link below)

  2. They youngest date given is still much too old for a 6,000-10,000 year old earth proposed by young earth creationists
