When Was Adam Created? - 11 January. This is Chapter 5 of the book Searching for Adam by the YEC author Terry Mortenson. Gives extensive, yet common YEC arguments for Adam being created only 6,000 years ago (i.e. nothing new).

 

Should Christian Schools Teach Evolution? - 12 January.  AiG says yes, because students will eventually run into evolutionary teachings. But they should be taught evolution's problems, so they know they should reject it.

 

Does the Bible Condone Abortion? - 12 January.

The Amazing Stone Bears of Yorkshire - 11 January. Repeats one of the worst YEC arguments.  Rocks don't take long to form...look at this! YEC's have a long history trying to show that calcified objects prove rocks form quickly.  I agree, these objects calcified quickly, but that doesn't mean all rocks form quickly.  Here are rebuttals for similar articles over the years

‘Prehistoric’ Preachers: Dinosaurs as “the gateway drug to atheism” - 12 January.  A children's article. Standard YEC indoctrination material for youth.

 

The Age of the Jenolan Caves, Australia - 13 January. This is a reprint of a Technical Journal article from 2007.  Summary from the conclusion: "Though recently hailed as the world’s oldest (340 Ma) open cave system, the Jenolan Caves system can be explained as the result of hydrothermal karsting during the final stages of the Noahic Flood." The author presents no evidence that would convince scientists that the caves are young.

 

Feathered forerunner or flight of fancy? - 14 January.  CMI's take on the dinosaur feather in amber.  CMI's bottom line...we don't know, but it doesn't threaten YEC.

Amazon Go, Creatures Depend on Sophisticated Sensors - 9 January, by Randy Guliuzza.  Gets the reader's interest by talking about sensors used in the Amazon Go store, then briefly discusses spiders. This god of the gaps article has no implications for the age of the earth.

 

Circular Reasoning Meme - ICR released this Facebook/Twitter meme falsely accusing evolution/old age believers of circular reasoning.  This blog post from Michael Roberts is a great response.

Moon is Older than Scientists Thought The moon is much older than some scientists believe, a research team now reports. Their precise analysis of zircons bought to Earth by Apollo 14 astronauts reveals the moon is at least 4.51 billion years old and probably formed only about 60 million years after the birth of the solar system -- 40 to 140 million years earlier than recently thought.

 

Paleontologists classify mysterious ancient cone-shaped sea creatures One branch on the tree of life is heavier as a team of scientists has determined what a bizarre group of extinct cone-shaped animals actually are. Known as hyoliths, these marine creatures evolved over 530 million years ago and are among the first known to have external skeletons. Long believed to be molluscs, a new study shows a stronger relationship to brachiopods -- a group with a rich fossil record though few species living today.

 

Our galaxy's black hole is spewing out planet-size 'spitballs' Every few thousand years, an unlucky star wanders too close to the black hole at the center of the Milky Way. The black hole's powerful gravity rips the star apart, sending a long streamer of gas whipping outward. That would seem to be the end of the story, but it's not. New research shows that not only can the gas gather itself into planet-size objects, but those objects then are flung throughout the galaxy in a game of cosmic 'spitball.'

 

Farthest stars in Milky Way might be ripped from another galaxy The 11 farthest known stars in our galaxy are located about 300,000 light-years from Earth, well outside the Milky Way's spiral disk. New research shows that half of those stars might have been ripped from another galaxy: the Sagittarius dwarf. Moreover, they are members of a lengthy stream of stars extending one million light-years across space, or 10 times the width of our galaxy.

 

How a Moon Slows the Decay of Pluto's' Atmosphere  A new study provides additional insight into relationship between Pluto and its moon, Charon, and how it affects the continuous stripping of Pluto's atmosphere by solar wind. When Charon is positioned between the sun and Pluto, the research indicates that the moon can significantly reduce atmospheric loss.

 

How Earth's previous moons collided to form the moon: New theory A new theory suggests the Moon we see every night is not Earth's first moon, but rather the last in a series of moons that orbited our planet. Moons formed through the process could cross orbits, collide and merge, slowly building the bigger moon we see today.
