Creation Moments

The Bottomless Suitcase

21 March 2006

The 21 March 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses the eye.  The author mentions a thin membrane filled with a mysterious fluid.  Although they don't give the scientific names, I believe they are referring to the Choroid, or more specifically, one of its components, the Bruch's Membrane.

The author tells that this fluid was first discovered in 1855, but that many scientists debated it for many years.  The more it is studied, the more uses it seems to have...removing waste, providing nutrients, providing chemicals, etc.  One researcher says its like a bottomless suitcase.

Interestingly, they use Charles Darwin, and claim that Darwin said it was impossible to believe that natural selection could produce the eye.  This is taken out of context, for later on in the same book, Darwin tells how it could have happened.  In fact, young earth creation science ministry Answers in Genesis lists the Darwin eye quote as an argument that young earth creationists should not use.

As Christians we should thank God for the way He designed our eyes.  However, this claim is typical of Creation Moments claims.  It is strictly a "God of the Gaps" type emotional argument (this is wonderful...God must have done it).  Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
