Creation Science Rebuttals -

Creation Moments

The Brainy Jellyfish

3 February 2006

The 3 February 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses the nervous system of the jellyfish.

The authors claim that biologists once thought jellyfish were primative life forms, because they show up early in the fossil record.  Recently, scientists have learned more about the jellyfish.  It has a nervous system similar to mammals and humans.

Using this information, the authors claim that "We're learning that when humans refer to a creature as simple, it's probably because of human ignorance of the creature, not because it's a simple form of life."  There is some truth to this.  As a Christian, I do believe that complex creatures are a testimony to God.  However, this makes a poor argument in favor of creation (and against evolution).  It is like saying, "This is too complex to have evolved...God must have done it.  It is an argument from emotion, not fact.

As Christians we should thank God for his complex creatures.  However, as is typical of Creation Moments claims, this is strictly a "God of the Gaps" type argument.  Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
