Bees - Master Engineers

30 January 2006

The 30 January 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses the superior intelligence of honey bees.

The authors relate how their honeycomb structure is built to precise specifications.  They say that "Humans are unable to use such precision in their designs without sophisticated equipment."  Later on, they say the "honeybee is a tiny but powerful computer."  They almost make it sound like bees are superior to humans!

Although bees do exhibit behavior indicative of intelligence, there is no problem for explaining the bee using evolution.  As a progressive creationist, who does not believe in evolution, I believe the bee does reflect our Creator.  However, theistic evolutionists have no problems with the bee either. They also can praise God for the bee, whether it evolved using laws which God put in place, or whether God guided its evolution.

As Christians we should thank God for the bee.   However, as is typical of Creation Moments claims, this argument boils down to an emotional one, or a "God of the Gaps" type argument.  Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
